The Cyberpunk 2077 Pre-order ARG was a mini-ARG created by CDPR as part of their announcement of the start of pre-orders for Cyberpunk 2077.

E3 Season

On the 10th of June, during the 2019 E3, CDPR sent out a tweet after their Cyberpunk 2077 presentation titled WAKE UP SAMURAI which included an image made of binary code, that translated to:

Seems you're not among the sheep after all. Wanna play a game? Watch for the beeps.

A few days after, CDPR updated the CP2077 pre-order page, to include a code that caused the light-blue underscore on the site flash in Morse code.

It was decoded to:

33.9899317,-118.47565259999999

It was discovered that they were the coordinates of a house across the street from CDPR's LA office.

After investigating, players discovered a QR Code on a door of CDPR's office.

Auramis

The Auramis website.

After scanning the QR code, players were led to https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/auramis/ which had the welcome message:

Hey there, Choomba!

If you’re reading this message, it means E3 has officially started
and we’re there with Cyberpunk 2077, front and center.

We kicked things off big this year, announcing the release date, launching pre-orders, showing off a new trailer, and revealing the character of Johnny Silverhand. That’s plenty already, but we’ve still got some surprises up our sleeve — make sure to keep your eyes and ears open!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being with us!

Your friends at CD PROJEKT RED

Player discovered that clicking on the S at the end of CYBERPUNK.NET/AURAMIS downloaded a password protected RAR file

Players discovered that the password to the RAR file was Johnny Silverhand from the welcome message.

Inside the RAR file were 2 files, a second password protected RAR file archive2.rar and a text file which read:

Things will happen.
Plans in motion.
Wait for more.

NIGHTCORP.NET

On the 12th of July, Lilayah posted tweet on her own account which read:

3^{eXa.Q9m^._78))3/X6Chd5,(7v~!L"ty"UmxjP6bRm2.wS!(TUMqgyBf6#%&+hm?C88+N'+&{\gL}9}Btzq<P:P=fAXb#Kb~qz{XfD^8+@hv$5Zuz$x<

Players discovered that this was the password to the second RAR file.

This RAR file contained a single file named 4035 which read:

20-11-16-7-.-24-5-3-10-24-17-22-16

It was discovered that converting the name of the file from octal to decimal became 2077, and applying the same to its contents resulted in:

16-9-14-7-.-20-5-3-8-20-15-18-14

When decoded with Letter Numbers, it resulted in PING.TECHTORN, which players discovered was an anagram of http://nightcorp.net.

Upon entering the site, players noticed in the background, a file named silence.mp3 was playing.

After a while, the audio changed to someone speaking a number.

Over the course of 24 hours, a total of 13 numbers were spoken, and repeated daily in the same order.

Players discovered that the number 0048696368719 was a Polish telephone number. which when dialled, would answer with Slash Uniform Slash Charlie Oscar Romeo Papa Tango Hotel India November Golf.

Players realised that this referred to the Reddit user Corpthing

Sudoku

On the 5th of September, during a conversation with discord user ShizaanSil, Corpthing began talking about NightCorp, and revealed that Sandra Dorsett had escaped from hospital.

Four days later, a discord user by the name of SandraD had joined the server and confronted ShizaanSil claiming that they were faking DMs.

She claimed to have hacked Corpthing's account, saying that they had found a keysheet that they will crack later in the week, and that they will then give it to ShizaanSil.

Her final messages were to "look for numbers and letters, and empty cells", and that "empty cells are the key".

After that, ShizaanSil contacted Corpthing again and spoke about Sandra. Corpthing confirmed that Sandra had hacked the account and sent messages to several potential recruits, which read:

DO NOT trust this corpo scum!

SD.

They also revealed that Sandra left a note which simply said "27".

Later on in the day, the Cyberpunk 2077 twitter account tweeted 27 sudoku puzzles.

On the 19th of September, Corpthing uploaded an image Reddit titled "Found this.".

Players then found that the pre-filled numbers on the sudokus lined up perfectly with the key-sheet that Corpthing uploaded, in the order of:

01, 23, 15, 10, 08, 20
27, 22, 11, 04, 09, 19
03, 14, 26, 17, 24, 12
21, 07, 02, 06, 18, 25

Unused sudokus (5, 13, and 16) have not been shown to have any relevance.

When players read through the sheet, they found many phrases with one of particular note being NETWATCH,

Albeit they didn't realise it at the time, which is why on the 10th of October, SandraD returned to the discord posting WHA EANW NCA NT TCW ATCACH, and to contact her once we manage to crack the code.

Players discovered that the code was only made of the 7 separate letters W H A E N T C which when rearranged (with T repeated), would spell out the word NETWATCH.

After repeating the key to make 26 characters, players were able to decode SandraD's message as saying: THE REAL YOU IS NOT ENOUGH.

A month later, on the 18th of November, SandraD returned inform players that THE REAL YOU IS NOT ENOUGH was not the solution she was looking for, and when players realised that the key, Netwatch was, SandraD replied with: Last riddle was a clue to the next step. Find it.

Eventually, players found the site https://netwatch-ncpd.com/

Envelopes

Beginning on the 19th of December, Cyberpunk 2077 Youtube streamers announced that they had received a package from CDPR, which contained 8 envelopes, each with a puzzle or a clue inside them.

They announced that they were going to open the envelopes over multiple livestreams between the 21st and 23rd of December.

5 of the envelopes contained puzzles, and 3 contained hints to them.

Clue#01: Johnny and Alt

On the 21st of December, first envelope was opened. It contained a piece of paper titled Clue#01: Johnny and Alt which had a sequence of letters underneath:

ADRRR EF N VNNENF AEAD AAE FNVRF

.

Players noticed that this code was similar to the hint posted on discord by SandraD, as it was constructed with only the letters:

A D R E F N V D

With A and E repeated twice, and the addition of Y it was discovered that the key was NEVERFADEAWAY, one of SAMURAI's songs.

Additionally, the first hint was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN1RJF55NXI, which is a link to the song on Youtube.

Players then decoded the sequence as saying

THERE IS A CANVAS WITH TWO FACES

Clue#02: Number

On the 22nd of December, the second envelope was opened. Inside was the page titled Clue#02: Number, which had the riddle:

My 1st is in Wales but not in Welsh.
My 2nd is in Iceland but not in Icelandic.
My 3rd is not in Sweden, but it is in Swedish.
My 4th is in England, but not in English.
My 5th is in Poland, but not in Polish.

The players also received the second hint, which read: You might need to use google translate.

Players realised that what this meant was that for most of the letters, the one sought was in the the English name for the country, but not in the languages name for the the country (With the exception of Sweden, which was the opposite.)

As such, for the first, the letter sought was present in the word WALES but not in the Welsh word CYMRU.

Which meant that the letters, W, A, L, E, and S were all possible.

It was determined (after completing the other letters) that the first letter was:

S

For the second, the only letters in ICELAND but not in the Icelandic ÍSLAND are C and E

It was determined that the second letter was:

E

For the third, players were looking for a letter that was in the Swedish SVERIGE but not in the English SWEDEN

Of which the were: V, R, I, and G

It was determined that the third letter was:

V

For the fourth, players needed to find a letter that was in the word ENGLAND but not in the Anglo-Saxon English word ANGLIA

Of which, only E and D were the differing letters.

It was determined that the forth letter was:

E

For the fifth, players found that the only letters in the word POLAND that weren't in the Polish word POLSKA were NandD.

It was determined that the fifth letter was:

N

The letters combined spelled out the word SEVEN.

Clue#03: Next!

On the 23rd of December, The third envelope was opened on the first livestream of the day. Inside was the page titled Clue#03: Next! which had the riddle:

What is the fourth and final member of this set:
19, 28, 81, ?

Players discovered that when written out, the three numbers started and ended with the same letter.

Nineteen, Twenty-Eight, Eighty-One

The numbers that follow 81 which follow the same pattern are:

Eighty-Three
Eighty-Five
Eighty-Nine
Ninety-Seven
One hundred and Two

It was determined that 102 was the answer that was needed, based on the contents of fifth envelope.

Clue#04: What Time is it?

On the 23rd of December, the fourth envelope was opened on the second livestream of the day. Inside was the page titled Clue#04: What Time is it? which had the riddle:

There is a clock in the archives -- a normal clock with numerals 1 to 12 around the clockface. Someone has taken to sticking words or numbers over these numerals and moving the hands to show the time indicated by these. What time showed on the clock?

[YQSZUPJWKJYYEMMLVWOCVGSCWHCZMJOGBDKRSTXTSCOUQPQJSDK]

Players also received the third hint, which read: Sum up the numbers from ciphertext.

It was discovered that to solve this players had to write out the numbers one through twelve below the ciphertext:

YQSZUPJWKJYYEMMLVWOCVGSCWHCZMJOGBDKRSTXTSCOUQPQJSDK
ONETWOTHREEFOURFIVESIXSEVENEIGHTNINETENELEVENTWELVE

After which, they needed to encode both sequences into letter numbers:

25 17 19 26 21 16 10 23 11 10 25 25 05 13 13 12 22 23 15 03 22 07 19 03 23 08 03 26 13 10 15 07 02 04 11 18 19 20 24 20 19 03 15 21 17 16 17 10 19 04 11
15 14 05 20 23 15 20 08 18 05 05 06 15 21 18 06 09 22 05 19 09 24 19 05 22 05 14 05 09 07 08 20 14 09 14 05 20 05 14 05 12 05 22 05 14 20 23 05 12 22 05

Then, in accordance with the hint, they had to add the two numbers in each column together:

40 31 24 46 44 31 30 31 29 15 30 31 20 34 31 18 31 45 20 22 31 31 38 08 45 13 17 31 22 17 23 27 16 13 25 23 39 25 38 25 31 08 37 26 31 36 40 15 31 26 16

Then, they were required to decode the new numbers from letter numbers, which included starting the alphabet again from 27 which resulted in the message:

NEXTREDECODETHERESTVEELHSMQEVQWAPMYWMYLYEHKZEJNOEZP

NEXTREDECODETHEREST with the new ciphertext VEELHSMQEVQWAPMYWMYLYEHKZEJNOEZP To continue decoding, players had to remove written numbers beginning from one, until the key lengths matched again.

VEELHSMQEVQWAPMYWMYLYEHKZEJNOEZP
SIXSEVENEIGHTNINETENELEVENTWELVE

and then to repeat the whole process:

41 14 29 31 13 41 18 31 10 31 24 31 21 30 22 39 28 33 30 26 30 17 13 33 31 19 30 37 20 17 48 21
 O N C E M O R E J E X E U D V M B G D Z D Q M G E S D K T Q V U

Which resulted in ONCEMORE and JEXEUDVMBGDZDQMGESDKTQVU.

To do it again:

JEXEUDVMBGDZDQMGESDKTQVU
EIGHTNINETENELEVENTWELVE

became

15 14 31 13 41 18 31 27 07 27 09 40 09 29 18 29 10 33 24 34 25 29 44 26
 O N E M O R E A G A I N I C R C J G X H Y C R Z

Which resulted inONEMOREAGAIN and ICRCJGXHYCRZ

with the final stage being:

ICRCJGXHYCRZ
ELEVENTWELVE

became

14 15 23 25 15 21 18 05 04 15 14 05
 N O W Y O U R E D O N E

Which resulted in NOWYOUREDONE.

After taking the first letter of each of the messages from the four stages

NEXTREDECODETHEREST
ONCEMORE
ONEMOREAGAIN
NOWYOUREDONE

Players were able to get the word NOON

774-NRC-445 REVISION 1A

The fifth envelope was likely intended to be opened by another streamer, however the first streamer opened it on their stream before opening the first clue envelope, which resulted in it being brute-forced.

The fifth envelope contained a page which consisted of an incomplete QR Code, Which had a grid in the middle full of numbers and letters.

To complete the QR, players needed the answers from the previous four envelopes, which were;

THERE IS A CANVAS WITH TWO FACES
SEVEN
102
NOON

The solution to the first envelope contained the number, TWO, and it was discovered that every letter of the word was present on the grid.

For the second envelopes solution, SEVEN had to be converted into its numerical version, since the letters S and N were not present on the grid.

For the third envelopes solution, the number 102 was present on the grid.

For the fourth envelopes solution, NOON had to be converted to it's numerical value 12.

By filling in each of the boxes which contained a T, W, O, 7, 102, and 12, it was then possible to reassemble the QR code into its completed form.

Scanning the QR led players to https://netwatch-ncpd.com/archives via the German QR creation and hosting service mal-den-code.
